December 18, 2022 │ AirParts

In part 1, we analysed the Global Production data versus Australia delivered models by manufactured colour, by production month/year, revealed how the numbering system works for Australian 1m, and how many brand new 1m were allocated by State. If you haven’t already read that, go and check it out:

Link to Part 1

In this blog, we will be analysing all the options, standard options vs paid options, listing out what are some of the rarest options that came from factory, how many models came factory with those options. If you want to know whether your car, or the car that you are looking purchase come with those options, feel free to try out our free Australia delivered BMW 1 Series M Coupe Register.

Car Options

We were initially told that all you have to do when ordering a brand new 1m in Australia is to specify a colour, of which there'll be three - Alpine White, Sapphire Black, and the hero colour, Valencia Orange.

But is that right? Does all Australian 1m built with the same list of options?

Standard Options

Indeed, all Australian spec 1M are loaded with options from standard: Harman/Kardon Surround Sound System (688), BMW Professional Navigation (609), Cruise Control (540), Voice Control (620), Electric Adjustable Memory Seats (459), Remote Alarm System (302), Adaptive bi-xenon headlights (524/522), 19” Competition 359M Style Wheels (2N6), an alcantara trim on the dash (4WB) and Roof-lining (775) of course, M-Drive, which is essentially an overboost function on the steering with the press of a button extracting an extra 50Nm of torque.

Summarised below are options that come on every single Australian spec 1M:

Paid Options

However, apart from the standard options that come with every car delivered, there are some interesting options which are not specced for all 301 of them.

One of the most interesting one is option code 902, “Special check, press vehicle”, there are 4 models come with this option code. What it means is these four models were ordered/specced specifically to do a press launch by BMW or be provided to a magazine for loan. Unsurprisingly, they were all early production series 1 model produced in April 2011, delivered in July 2011 and landed in Melbourne.

Listed below are these four special press vehicles:

AU Prod Number Series Group SeriesColor Production Date Delivery Date Delivery Time Delivered to (Suburb) Delivered to (State)

Other interesting options we noted were Comfort Access (322), which allows keyless lock, unlock and starting the car with the key fob in your pocket; Heated Seats (494), which is useful in the chilly winter; Auto-High Beam (5AC), which turns the high beams on when really dark and does turn off when there is car on the other side of the road; Daytime driving lights front and rear active (8TL), as implied by the option description, these models have both front and rear DLR while most builds only come with front DLR.

Of the 301 delivered models, only 166 came with Comfort Access; 117 came with Heated Seats; 96 came with Auto-High Beam and 68 came with both front and rear DRL.

More interestingly, there were only 15 out of 301 that comes with all of these four options, which were all series 1 production vehicles; 6 of them were in Alpine White, 4 in Black Sapphire and 5 in Valencia Orange.

To find out whether your car, or the car that you are looking purchase come with those options, feel free to try out our free Australia delivered BMW 1 Series M Coupe Register.

How Many 1M Are Still Remaining On the Road?

Undoubtedly, this wild true boy racer who is always tail-happy was designed for the track. But not all owners take them to the track for fun, which makes us curious as to how many 1M are still remaining on the road after the last decade.

The Lucky Survivors vs Sacrificed Victims

As at the time of writing this blog (18 December 2022), there are only 283 survivors on our aussie soil. Out of the other 18 that do not come with a clean WOVR records, 14 were statutory write-off that cannot be registered; the other four were repairable write-off; two of them have been repaired, inspected and back on the road; the other two have not got a repaired record yet.

The Early Retired Warriors
For all Stat Write-off, when did it happened?

In Australia, all accident vehicles are recorded in the national Written-Off Vehicles Register (WOVR), this register allows insurers, auctioneers and dismantlers to access Transport database in real-time to check whether a particular vehicle is a written-off vehicle. As at the time of writing this blog (18 December 2022), fourteen 1M have been early retired. Summarised below is the timeline of their retirement.

Below is a line chart showing the total number of road registered 1M with clean title from 2011 till date, currently there are only 283 of them left in the country.

For all Stat Write-off, which state did it happened?

Beside time of the write-off, the next interesting question would have to be location.

And yes you guessed it right, exactly half of the 14 written-off 1M happened in New South Wales, followed by the Sunshine State Queensland, which sadly witnessed four of them; the remaining 3 split across Victoria and Western Australia.

For the remaining 283 registered on the road, which state are they in?

You might wonder which state has the most road registered clean 1M at the moment? Don’t worry, we got you covered.

Currently, nearly 40% of the remaining clean 1M are registered in New South Wales; closely followed by Victoria, which accounted for nearly 30%; Queensland came third when it comes to 1M love, with just over 15% ownership nationally; ACT, SA, WA are pretty evenly spread with around 3 to 4% of the population. There is one clean 1M which is currently not showing registration details, our speculation is it could be a collection sitting in a air-conditioner showroom not being used.

That’s all for our analysis on the Australia delivered spec 1M, we hope you like it.
